Professional Collaboration

One of my goals as a certified professional trainer is to see more knowledge in the community about basic dog behavior and I believe we get there by collaborating as professionals in this industry.

Most people will see their vet on, at the very least, a yearly basis. People trust that their vets are knowledgeable professionals, and therefore tend to ask them any questions they may come up with in regards to their dogs. However, most veterinarians do not specialize in dog behavior, just as they do not all specialize in grooming or nutrition. Now, if every veterinarian felt comfortable recommending at least one dog trainer/behaviorist for their clients then that would be a huge relief to the client and take any burden off the veterinarian to be “all-knowing.”

I don’t believe that this needs to be the last of it, as I feel that the veterinarian staying updated on the behavior side will help bridge the gap. If this could be a collaboration, then we start building a “team” around the client and their dog(s). This gives them the greatest chance to get the best care possible and have real change occur that will affect everyone positively.

A dog that can calmly go to the vet , and therefore effectively be treated, is beneficial to not only the client, but to the dog, and the vet staff as well. Everyone can stay safe and happy.

The same can be said for any other dog-related professional. Groomers, dog-walkers, and any and all dog care workers can really benefit from a client working with a professional trainer/behaviorist. This is really a win-win-win-win situation!

I will strive to be the change I want to see in this industry that I am so passionate about, and I hope I can inspire others to find more ways to be collaborative in our industry.

We are all on the same side here!

HAPPY TRAINING!
