Can my dog sleep in my bed?

MYTH BUSTING: A dog can’t sleep in a person’s bed

Have you heard that your dog will be in control of the household, the leader, or the Alpha if they are allowed to sleep on your bed?

Well I am here to tell you, that is malarky. No seriously, this is based on outdated and debunked theories.

Your dog isn’t trying to take over your household. Your dog simply wants your company.

We actually bred them to love being with us, “man’s best friend” and all that. So why wouldn’t we let them do so?

Now, it is still up to the individual. Maybe your dog is too big to comfortably share your bed, or maybe they are old or disabled and you are a wild sleeper and are afraid of kicking and hurting them. You could put a dog bed next to your bed and encourage them to lay there (definitely work with a trainer if this is hard for your dog) or for some a crate can be the answer. Just make sure that your dog doesn’t dislike the crate in general, as that wouldn’t be a relaxing place for them to sleep then.

Talk to a professional trainer about your options.
